South Dakota Preservation & Restoration Grants Program

General Guidelines

  1. The purpose of the State Grants program is to encourage preservation and restoration by our chapters. State grants shall be awarded for the preservation and restoration of existing historic building, museums or landmarks and appropriate objects or artifacts for those structures.
  2. Only one Grant application per chapter may be submitted and chapter projects MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN ONE YEAR FROM THE DATE OF THE AWARD. Chapters shall make a 6-month progress report by November 1 and a final progress report by May 1. Unused Grant Award monies shall be returned to the State Treasurer.
  3. The program shall be funded by chapter and personal donations and by the State P & R raffle held during the State Convention.
  4. The number and total amount of grants shall be determined by the State Executive Board based on the funds available as of March 31 on the odd numbered years. Grants are awarded in amounts from $500.00 to $2500.00.
  5. Judging criteria has been developed by the State Executive Board and shall be judged on the merits of the individual projects proposed based on the judging criteria — Chapter Involvement (Example-volunteer hours, hours spent on Fundraising, working on getting ready etc.), Amount of Chapter Funds Raised, Local Historic Significance, Quester Recognition.
  6. SD State Past Presidents shall comprise the State Grants Judging Committee. The P & R Chairman shall receive all applications and all eligible applications shall be sent to the Past State Presidents accompanied by ballots from the Chairman. The ballots shall be returned to the Chairman by March 15. Grants are subject to the final approval of the State Executive Board. Letters will be sent to all project chairmen whose applications do not conform to the judging criteria following the State convention at which awards are announced.
  7. Application forms and guidelines shall be mailed by the P & R Chairman upon request from the chapter. Forms are available on the SD website, sd-questers.org under grants.
  8. Completed Application forms shall be sent to the State P & R Chairman.

  10. Grants shall be announced and checks awarded at the Annual Luncheon held during the State Convention on the odd numbered years.
  11. COMPLETED APPLICATION FORMS MUST BE POSTMARKED ON OR BEFORE THE DEADLINE DATE OF NOVEMBER 15 OF EVEN NUMBERED YEARS.
